A. The position of vice-mayor shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of Section 20(j) of the Charter of the city of Bakersfield. Should the position become vacant after a member of the council has been elected to such position and other than at the time for election of a successor pursuant to Section 20(j), the council shall elect a vice-mayor, for the balance of the time until another vice-mayor is to be selected pursuant to Section 20(j), within thirty days of the date such position becomes vacant.

B. A councilmember elected to the position of vice-mayor may not succeed him or herself in such position. (Ord. 3265 § 1, 1989)
